There’s a moment, quiet, almost unremarkable, when you realise your love for animals is more than just affection. It’s a way of being.
Maybe it’s the way you sit on the floor with the dog that everyone else calls ‘aggressive’ and you see fear where others see danger. Or the way you instinctively reach for a rescue cat who’s never let anyone touch her and she melts under your hand.
People have probably said it to you before: “You’re so good with animals, you should do this for real.”
And you smile, half proud, half doubtful. Because that small voice inside wonders: Who am I to call myself a trainer? A behaviourist?
But here’s what we know, after working with hundreds of people just like you:
It’s not about who you think you aren’t.
It’s about recognising who you already are and what you could become, with the right learning and the right support.
Close your eyes for a moment and ask yourself: Where have I already made a difference?
Think of the animals you’ve soothed, the people you’ve guided, the gentle wisdom you’ve offered for nothing in return.
Those moments matter. They’re the seeds of something bigger.
Now, imagine waking up to a life where that quiet gift is your life’s work.
Where you’re trusted not just by friends and family but by strangers who know your name because they trust your knowledge.
Where you have the science to back your intuition, and the confidence to stand by your methods.
Of course, there’s always a reason to hold back.
You might tell yourself you’re too old, too busy, not educated enough.
You might feel you’re stepping into a world that only welcomes those with degrees and decades of experience.
But that simply isn’t true.
At DGI, we’ve seen what happens when ordinary animal lovers, often women who’ve given so much of themselves for so long, finally say “Yes. It’s my turn now.”
They don’t leap straight to the top. They begin where they are. They take one step, then another. And slowly, quietly, they build a life that feels like it’s always been waiting for them.
Your own pathway can be just as gentle and real.
Maybe you’ll start with a Level 2 or 3 course, a chance to test the water, see how it feels to study again, to shape your gift into a skill.
Maybe you’ll discover you’re hungry for more so you move onto Level 4, then Level 5, deepening your understanding of animal behaviour, learning to handle more complex cases, feeling your confidence grow.
And one day, if you wish, you’ll stand among the best, completing our ABTC-recognised Level 6 Clinical Animal Behaviourist qualification, ready to take your place in the field with your head held high.
Between these steps, there’s no rush. Just a steady hand on your shoulder, tutors who’ve walked this path before you, and a community that holds you up on the days when self-doubt creeps in.
Students tell us this is what they wish they’d known sooner:
You don’t have to ‘feel ready’. You just have to start.
Because readiness isn’t a box you tick, it’s a feeling that grows as you do.
So, if this little reflection has stirred something in you hold onto that.
Write down the moments you’re proud of. The difference you’ve already made. The life you’d build if you let yourself.
If you’d like to see how your own journey could unfold, we’d love to share it with you.
Our courses are open to you, whether you’re taking your first step or your final leap.
Take your time. Explore our full pathway. Or talk to us; no hard sell, just honest advice from people who believe in what you can become.
Because the animals need more good people in the world.
And maybe, just maybe, so do you.
